Billionaire Donald Trump said Wednesday that he has more wealth per capita than the people of the United States, according to a study by The Associated Press.
Trump, the Republican nominee for president, is the first billionaire to make the claim in a major poll of the billionaire class.
The billionaire, whose real estate empire includes Trump Tower, also claimed that he’s the richest person in the world, according the AP’s Rich Hribar.
Trump has $4.5 billion in net worth, which includes his ownership of the New York real estate developer.
The AP’s Ricciardello found that Trump had a net worth of $4,936,000 per person, which equates to an estimated $3.4 million per person.
He has more money than the citizens of New York, according his wealth report, which included net worth from businesses, partnerships and other sources.
The wealth of Trump’s other business partners and investors, meanwhile, is not included in the AP wealth report.
The billionaire, who has a net fortune of $10 billion, said his net worth was “about equal to that of the entire population of the U.S.”
The AP reported that Trump said his wealth is a fraction of the estimated $10 trillion that is held by the richest 1 percent of Americans.
Trump said his $4 billion net worth is “about twice as much as the income of the poorest Americans combined.”
