Overwatch is getting a pay-per-click system, but not on the desktop platform.
Blizzard Entertainment announced the move today, confirming that Overwatch would be the first major Overwatch game to offer the feature.
Overwatch is set to launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 11.
The pay-to-play Overwatch beta will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux.
Pay-to/pay-to unlock modes for Overwatch will be coming later this year, Blizzard said.
The company also said that players will be able to earn in-game currency using Overwatch’s new “Gold” currency, which can be spent on in-app purchases.
Blizzard said it will “offer additional features and game modes” in the future, including Overwatch’s “Premium” mode.
“We’re excited to bring Pay-To-Play to Overwatch,” said lead game designer Jeff Kaplan.
“With Overwatch, we’re bringing new ways to pay for Overwatch gameplay experiences, while also giving you access to the very best Overwatch content for the ultimate in competitive multiplayer.”
The Overwatch beta comes at a time when Overwatch has become a popular game.
Blizzard has been working to bring Overwatch to consoles and PC for a long time.
Last year, it announced that the game would be made available on consoles for the first time.
