India has banned a blogger who has been accused of defaming the country’s judiciary and the ruling party.
The blogger, who goes by the pseudonym Arun Shukla, was arrested in May and released after a few months on bail.
The court granted him bail but then ruled he must return to court for sentencing, the Hindustan Times reported.
The Indian judiciary is the countrys highest legal institution and it has long been accused by rights groups of violating Indian sovereignty.
In April, India’s Supreme Court ruled that the judiciary was not independent, but instead operated with the consent of the executive.
The court also said that the judges who issued judgments on issues such as mining, pollution, road safety and other issues did not have the authority to issue arrest warrants against anyone.
